Inspect Element Launch!

Hello and welcome to the introduction of Inspect Element, a blog about web design and development by myself, Tom Kenny. I wanted a place where I could build up my knowledge of working with the web while sharing my experiences with anyone listening. I’ve been in the web design/development industry for almost 3 years now and as I’ve learnt most of what I know from the online community, it is time to give something back.

Here at Inspect Element, we’re aiming at people of all levels of experience. The simple things section is not only a place for beginners but may also be useful to even experts who may have missed something or as a way of acting as a friendly reminder for anything that my have been forgotten about. There is a lot of information out there so old stuff is bound to be pushed out of our brains. The same applies to the did you know…? area but this is more in the realms of information or techniques that you may have missed. There is also a section titled, best of the week, where we show what we found most interesting that week. Anything from favourite wallpapers to jQuery plugins or whatever else we find.

Origin of the Name

Ever since I’ve been trying to perfect the art of CSS, web inspector (part of WebKit which powers Safari and Google Chrome among others) and firebug (FireFox add-on) have become invaluable tools.

The way I open either tool is to right click on any area on a web page and click ‘Inspect Element’. I’m sure many of you out there already got the reference but just a heads up for those who didn’t know.

Well, I hope you enjoy the site and the many ideas we have planned for the future! Don’t forget you can subscribe to Inspect Element by RSS or follow us on Twitter.
