I have been finding it difficult to work with my clients project for long time & it was time consuming as I use to work in my local set-up , test it & then update it on the live production site.
But this article was good that saved my life with my projects

Good article , worth spending time to read it :-)

When I tweak or build themes, I do it on a local SQL and Apache install on my Mac - which really speeds up development for me. (MAMP + OS X Sites)

This is a handy tutorial for doing quick edits on the live site, though. Thanks!

@Ben: Sometimes it's hard to duplicate what you have on a live server. A good example would be Wordpress theme settings that are NOT carried over when you install a new theme. Adjusting all of those variables again can take hours and hours. So long as you have backups of the current version of the live site, then you're relatively safe.

I have made this work and it looks very useful. Thanks. But...

I am using WordPress 2.8.4, and at least as far as this version is concerned there are two little [but frustrating] errors in the code

in the functions.php code there is a missing } at the end

in header.php

<a href="?theme=yourthemename">
should be
<a href="?wptheme=yourthemename">

ie ?wptheme= not ?theme=

As I am emphatically not a php developer, it took me a long while to work this out!

Hi, I'll have to give this a try! One thing I also do is to have a webserver running on my notebook/laptop and keep a working copy of my blog on my laptop. I can make changes on my laptop and see the affects and they'll be pretty accurate to what will happen when I upload the changes to my real server. I thought of this when I overheard a very expensive, local web designer, complaining to one of her clients that her client's web host didn't give her a test IP! I thought, why the heck would you need this when you're running a really topped out MAC; just start your webserver and browse to localhost!
